Burnished Skies

£225.00

Original oil on Canvas | Unframed

Burnished Skies is an original oil painting inspired by the extraordinary atmosphere of the 2026 heatwave. The sky became a study in heat, light and shifting colour — glowing with burnt oranges, crimsons, smoky greys and flashes of earthy warm beige.

Painted in oil on canvas, the work captures that strange stillness that settles over the landscape during extreme heat: a horizon softened by haze, a sky heavy with colour, and the feeling that the air itself has become part of the landscape.

The textured surface and layered brushwork bring movement to the horizon, contrasting with the hazy, almost dreamlike sky above. Burnished Skies is a contemporary landscape shaped as much by atmosphere and memory as is by place

Artist’s notes

The intensity of colour became central to this work I wanted the colours to feel almost heightened by the heat, capturing that strange, vivid quality of light during the 2026 heatwave. For me, the painting became less about a specific place and more about a moment in time — a memory of the heatwave translated through colour, texture and light.
