Fragments of Inspiration

Every painting begins long before I pick up a brush.

Captured during my travels, these extraordinary landscapes, and those like them continue to inspire my work. From the mist-covered fjords of Alaska and the glaciers of Patagonia to the dramatic coastlines of Antarctica and the ever-changing shores closer to home, each place has left its mark on my artistic journey.

Somewhere along the way, I realised I had stopped looking at the world as most people do. I no longer see the sea as simply blue, or the mountains as just green. Instead, I find myself noticing Payne's Grey softened with French Ultramarine, the crisp glacial light of Cerulean Blue blended with Titanium White, or dramatic skies where Alizarin Crimson melts into Dioxazine Purple.

My travelling companions will often smile as I point out that the sea isn't just blue; it's a dozen colours dancing together. Once you begin seeing the world through a painter's eyes, it's impossible to stop.

It is those colours, textures and moments of quiet grandeur that I carry home with me, transforming memories into paintings that invite you to experience these remarkable places through my eyes.

  • Where silence begins

    Misty Fjords, Alaska

Wrapped in mist and silence, Alaska reminds us that nature's greatest beauty is often found in its quietest moments. These extraordinary landscapes inspire the colours, movement and atmosphere woven throughout my work.

  • Carved by time

    St. Mathews Island. Bearing Sea

The dramatic rock formations of St. Matthew Island, rising from the remote waters of the Bering Sea, are a powerful reminder of nature's untamed beauty. Shaped by wind, sea and time, these rugged landscapes inspire the expressive textures, bold movement and atmospheric depth that define my paintings.

  • Layers of silence

    Fournier Bay, Antarctica

The untouched beauty of Fournier Bay, Antarctica, inspires me to explore texture as a way of capturing stillness. Layers of ice, glacial light and quiet reflections create an ever-changing landscape, reminding me that nature's greatest beauty is often found in its subtle details.

  • Nature's Palette

    Amalia Fjord, Patagonia

The dramatic beauty of the Fjords continues to shape my work. Surrounded by towering mountains, emerald waters and ancient glaciers, I found endless inspiration in the harmony of colour, texture and light—elements that became the foundation for one of my original paintings, “ Amalia Dreams”

  • Where ocean meets land

    Dutch Harbor, Unalaska

The shoreline of Unalaska is shaped by the endless rhythm of the sea. As the tide washes over weathered rocks beneath the dramatic mountains beyond, I'm reminded how movement, texture and light work together to create the quiet beauty that inspires many of my coastal paintings.

  • Rhythm of the tide

    South Coast, England

The South Coast is where I return to reconnect with nature. The changing tides, shifting light and endless movement of the sea continually inspire the colours, textures and quiet atmosphere that flow through my paintings.
